LGA COVID-19 Message 4.1.2020

The message below from the LGA was forward on by Karen:

Dear LGA Members and Friends,

What struck me most today in my regular travels (I actually stayed inside the car for much of the morning) was the dearth of cars that I saw on the road and lack of people in the communities around the Lake. It was very quiet. Even this early in spring, people are usually out and commerce is happening. But not this year.

A regular part of my job as Communications Director of the LGA is spend time in all of our communities, see conditions, and talk to residents and members. (Pictured: I stopped quickly at Bolton’s steamboat pier. More photos from today below.)

Since it is early in the spring, and many of our members and friends aren’t yet focused on Lake happenings, I wanted to alert you to some news: Each of the three counties that surround Lake GeorgeWarren (scroll down to the middle of the page), Washington, and Essex – are asking for visitors, weekenders and second-home-owners to rethink a trip to our region.

They are also asking for the suspension of Airbnb and VRBO rentals for the spring.

We expect that those two groupings of people include a number of our members.

You can read the messages from the counties by clicking on the county name at the links above.

Because the region’s population is relatively small — in comparison with the Capital Region, New York City, Boston, Philadelphia and other major metropolitan areas — any exponential growth of the coronavirus will quickly overwhelm regional health care services.

As an alternative, DEC is suggesting that people get out in their own communities and recreate (https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/NYSDEC/bulletins/283303a).
